Yup that's right. I'm working on ReelFx's first full length feature "Turkeys".  I've only been here 2 weeks but I'm already having an amazing time. More updates soon!

So I was a guest speaker at PICCA(Philippine International Creative Content and Arts) a few days ago. I talked about some of my experiences being a student of animation. I prepared this little facial animation test to show some of the students how animation works. Its a bit rough and weird looking but I only had about 4 hours to work on it.

BTW: this is a character rig I built a few months ago for personal use. I thought she turned out pretty nice and appealing. Her name is Angela ;)

Skater's spin Flipbook

Haven't done any flipbook fun in a while. I thought Id spend an hour or 2 drawing this but I ended up spending 4. Way slower then my other flipbook tests. I probably should do these tests more frequently.Well here it is. Ok back to work.

Blue Sky!

What have I been up to lately?

I was recently hired at Blue Sky Animation to work on the upcoming film "Ice Age 4: Continental Drift". I've been having such a good time and the people there have such a positive attitude. Earlier today during a screening, one of the supervising animators told the theater filled with over a hundred people that there was a new animator on board. Angelo Sta. Catalina. The entire crowd clapped and chanted dance dance! I screamed "oh gosh no" in hopes that they don't push through with their chants. Luckily I didn't have to dance!

I'll try to post more when I have time...

Short Hand doodle

A page I did exploring a couple short hand thumbnails. This one in particular, I emphasized on flow. I noticed in a few of my airport sketches that some of drawings had this flow-y style to it. I thought I'd try it on my own. Its kind of simple but it seems it'd be a nice style to draw animation thumbnails in because its easy to loose sight of flow in CG when the rigs are by default so stiff and straight. I'll try to experiment more on this type of short hand.

Dreamworks Sketches

Here are a couple Sketches I doodled up while going and coming from Dreamworks Glendale. I shot some 'not so good' video along the way. Martyn Smith, another fellow student from iAnimate and visitor of Dreamworks brought an SLR camera along to take some oh so sweet pictures. As soon as he uploads the pictures, I'll continue on with my secret sinister plans of stealing them to repost on my blog. muhahaha ^_^.

Commut Sketches 02

So iA has started and since then, I've been quite busy. I took my cousin out to downtown San Francisco today. Here's a couple of commute sketches. I haven't rendered drawings in a long time. I thought I'd fool with it and try adding some detail in.

iPad 2 and other stuff

So I finally got a hold of an ipad 2 after my 5th attempt. I know, I know... Why didn't I just buy it online? Well, studying at iAnimate, making rigs, and Skype time with my girlfriend who is 12 thousand miles away keeps me indoors. Going to the apple store to line up with a hundred other people makes for a good opportunity to socialize with others face to face. There was one thing I noticed: Being hidden from the suns reach pushes me realize how interesting outside really is and that I need more of it. When you take something out of your daily habit, you start to look with fresh eyes and a clear unbiased mind (just like animation). You'll notice how the person next to you on the bus presents himself even if he's just glancing about. A person with a commuting daily routine might look at that person just as another commuter clouding the mind of whats really there.

The iA site opened up today and everyone is pumped and ready to animate. I'm really starting to rush things. I haven't worked on my unfinished workshop 4 assignments and I need to get this Jackal rig finished and uploaded ASAP. I need to find a dialog piece to use for workshop 5. ahhh...

BTW.. the drawing up there was made with the artStudio app for ipad.. Its tough drawing with an ipad but i reckon i'll get use to it sooner or later...

Jackal Hands Rigging WIP

So this is what has been keeping me busy these past few days.. I've found that a lot of rigs out there have hands where the knuckles would round out and look like pipes when they would bend.. They fingers would loose their volume and disregard the bone structure beneath the skin. Here's jackals hand system. The deformations took about a day to do.. There are a couple more things to do and iAnimate is starting soon... I've got to get this done and start planning on what I want to animate for workshop 5.

Lucy Internship

So I was just notified by Ben Rush (dreamworks animator, director, film maker) that I've been qualified to intern for the lucy film. I'm happy to have been picked despite being parred with tons of talented animation students at iAnimate.

Check the site production blog out guys!
